NW Wind Symphony spring concert, “Desserts,” April 20

We’re wrapping up our 2023-2024 season with a program of musical delights that promise to be a treat for your ears.

  • Overture to the Wasps, composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams for a Greek play after studying with Maurice Ravel in Paris.
  • Camilla Saint-Seans’ Dance Macabre, a scandalous piece of music with risqué xylophone.
  • Vaughan Williams’ Variations for Wind Band, a theme and 11 variations with a variety of moods and styles.
  • Browning (The Leaves be Green), a popular tune of the late 16th century, featuring guest artists Janet Bebb, Martin Sobelman, and Boyd Osgood.
  • Claude Debussy’s Sarabande, with sensuous harmonies and delicate lines.
  • Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy, one of the most famous compositions for wind band.
  • Henry Fillmore’s Klaxon March, a commission he received to compose a ‘showstopper’ as advertising for the 1930 Cincinnati Auto Show.

The show starts at 7 p.m. on April 20 at Corbet Theatre in Centralia. $12 general admission. Students free with paying adult.
